Dental Implants are used to replace a missing tooth or teeth as a fixed restoration. The main advantage is that the preparation of the adjacent teeth is avoided as they are anchored in the jaw bone.

A Dental Implant is a substitute for a natural tooth root made of titanium and it is inserted into a socket that has been carefully drilled at the desired location. This creates an initial stability that will allow the bone to grow across the surface of the implant, integrating the implant into the bone by a process called osseointegration.

The Dental Implant has an internal screw that allows an abutment to be fitted to hold a crown, a bridge or an overdenture.

Dental Implants in Sheffield

Dental implants are a popular long-term and cost effective solution to tooth loss that can fully restore the appearance and functionality of your teeth. Implants substitute the root portion of a missing tooth and can securely support a crown, bridge or denture. They should be cared for in the same way as your natural teeth and are medically proven to slow down bone loss, preserve healthy tissue and do not require any damage to neighbouring healthy teeth.

The main indications for dental implants defined by The Association of Dental Implantology of the UK are to restore aesthetics and lost dental function (including chewing and speech), as well as occlusal stability. In addition, dental implants preserve and prevent bone resorption after teeth loss.
Our initial stages are always diagnostic to work out our ideal plan to replace your missing teeth. A diagnostic Xray or a 3D scan will be required prior any surgical stage to assess suitability for Dental Implants. In this manner, your treatment becomes totally predictable, manageable, and preventative of future disease. The surgery of placing the screwed implant is done under local anaesthesia. It takes place in our surgery at Beighton Dental Care, and our highly trained team makes sure that you have a relaxed and calmed experience.
Since the surgery normally involves exposing the bone in the area where the dental implant is to be placed you can expect some minor swelling and occasionally bruising afterwards. For most patients, any of the simple painkillers you might take for a headache will be all that is needed for a few days. You also be asked to follow some simple procedures such as rinsing with salt water or an antiseptic mouthrinse. Our team at Beighton Dental Care is always available to help in case you have any question after your procedure.
A person who can undergo tooth extractions or bridgework can undergo dental implant treatment. The location and the amount of bone available in the implant area is normally the major factor to be considered for any case. Normally implants are suitable and best option for most cases but its best to have a consultation with our dentist to check for suitability and ask any questions you might have for the treatment.
