Teeth Fillings

Dental decay is caused by plaque acids that gradually dissolve away the enamel and dentine of the tooth. In early stages of dental decay there are no symptoms, and they are much easier to treat than advanced decay. Once the cavity has reached the dentine, the tooth can be sensitive, but if it gets near the dental pulp toothache may arise. If this is not treated it can develop a dental abscess.

At Beighton Dental Care we work to prevent dental decay. The dentist and dental therapists examine the teeth carefully, take X-rays when appropriate and show you how to brush correctly. In case there is a dental decay, the dentist or dental therapist at Beighton Dental Care will remove the decay and restore the tooth with a tooth-coloured filling. At our Practice we use the latest materials to achieve excellent aesthetics and long-lasting restorations using always a minimal invasive approach.

Root Canal Treatment

A root canal treatment or endodontics is required when the nerve (pulp) of the tooth is infected due to a decay or an injury. If the nerve is infected it can spread and cause an abscess. The aim of the root canal treatment is to remove the infection and clean the root to prevent any further infection. It should feel no different to having a filling, however is a more time-consuming and skilled procedure. It usually takes two appointments: the first one the pulp is removed and canals are cleaned, and in a second appointment the roots and tooth are permanently filled.

The advantages of having a root canal treatment is that the tooth can be kept (sometimes a crown is required to provide extra strength after the treatment). The alternative would be to have the tooth extracted. At Beighton Dental Care we use latest digital electronic devices to determine the exact position of the root apex as well as rotatory motors to ensure the most accurate and precise treatment.

Extractions

A dental extraction is the removal of a tooth. A tooth extraction may be needed due to different reasons: unrestorable teeth due to dental decay or fracture, periodontal disease, impacted or infected wisdom teeth or to create space for teeth alignment (orthodontics).

At Beighton Dental Care, extractions are performed under local anaesthetic by our experienced dentist Dr. Anna Vila, that has a degree in Oral Surgery as well as years of dedication to extract teeth.

Teeth Crowns

A crown (“cap”) is an artificial restoration that fits over a tooth that has been prepared and shaped. Crowns can be used to restore teeth that have been broken or weakened by a decay or a root canal. They can be used as well to improve the appearance of the teeth (see section *Cosmetic Dentistry).

At Beighton Dental Care we use the newest materials and the best laboratories to construct the most suitable crown for you with the highest aesthetic and longevity possible
